Simon Fell, Conservative candidate for Barrow and Furness, today welcomed the news that the Government is extending the Forces Help to Buy scheme to ensure that more service personnel are able to make their first steps on the property ladder.
The scheme is being extended for a further three years and allows military personnel to borrow a deposit of up to half their salary interest free to contribute to buying a home, building an extension, or moving to a new property.
Speaking from Dalton, Simon Fell said:
"This scheme has already helped 18,000 armed forces personnel and their families since 2014 - I'm delighted it's being extended. It is a welcome thank you for their commitment and service to this country.
"Alongside the creation of a new Office for Veterans Affairs, led by Veterans themselves, this is a package that shows a government which is committed to supporting military personnel, whether they are in active service or retired.
"We owe our armed forces a tremendous debt of gratitude, and I'm glad that we are ensuring that they, and their families, have the support they need."
