Barrow-in-Furness has played a unique role in Britain’s history.

It pioneered steel production, and was responsible for the railways which cross our nation, and many commonwealth nations too.

And it has been central to the nation’s defence: for over 150 years building ships that have protected our allies and ourselves, and more recently the boats that patrol beneath our seas, offering safety and protection to Britain and our NATO allies.

Now, with Dreadnought and the new AUKUS pact between Britain, Australia and the USA, Barrow is once again the centre of the nation’s defence, responsible for a national endeavour.

We should be rightly proud of the role that Barrow plays. But I believe that it should be recognised for it too. I believe that Barrow should be given the title of a Royal Town in respect for its service in the past, and the role that it will play in the future.

Our submission is now with the Cabinet Office for review and here’s the video that accompanied it highlighting the key reasons Barrow deserves to be a Royal Town.

It’s not too late to support the campaign by filing out the survey!
