Former Barrow & Furness MP John Woodcock backs Simon Fell

In an explosive letter to residents of Barrow and Furness, John Woodcock, the area’s former Member of Parliament has urged voters to back Simon Fell, the Conservative Candidate, over “Corbyn’s man” Chris Altree.

MP John Woodcock lays out the reasons why he cannot recommend voters back Mr Corbyn, or his candidate in Barrow & Furness, stating that:

  • the Labour candidate only joined the Labour Party to elect CND President Jeremy Corbyn;

  • the Labour candidate questioned the need for Trident renewal, and

  • a vote for Labour will empower Mr Corbyn to scrap Dreadnought and destroy thousands of jobs in the area.

Mr Woodcock goes on to state that:

“Simon Fell is the man I trust to work with the government to keep the submarine programme on track here as your Member of Parliament. He is a truly decent individual who will make a dedicated and caring MP. I know he is determined to carry on our fight to improve transport links, invest in the town centre and keep up our momentum on making the new homes in the marina village a reality.”

Simon Fell said:

“John and I have clashed many times over the years but he has fought tirelessly for Barrow & Furness as its MP and so I am incredibly grateful for this endorsement.

“John is Labour through and through. That he is not only urging voters to back his old party, but instead to support me, speaks volumes of how low Jeremy Corbyn has taken the once-great Labour Party.

“Barrow and Furness needs a dedicated MP who backs our main industry and our local economy 100% - not someone who has questioned Trident renewal and who will put Mr Corbyn into Government.

“I would urge voters to listen to John’s advice and vote Conservative on 12 December to secure Furness’ future.”
