Power is no protection from harm

This is a deeply worrying time for the nation.

Right now, my thoughts are very much with the Prime Minister and his family. I can't imagine what they're going through right now.

The PM is receiving the best care and is following his doctors' medical advice. In his temporary absence, the government continues, with a strong team leading our response to this pandemic.

Our approach must remain the same: we will be guided by the science to push down the peak of the virus, protect the NHS, and thereby save lives.

What this shows is that the virus does not discriminate. Whether you are young, old, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, or someone just going about day-to-day life in these strange times.

This is why it is so crucial to follow the government's advice:

Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.

I'd also like to pay tribute to those key workers who are wrapping their arms not just around the PM right now, but all of us. Whether in the front line at Furness General, in GP surgeries, or pharmacies. Whether the Police or fire service, teachers, care workers or volunteers.

Thank you to everyone who has stepped up across Barrow & Furness, Cumbria and the UK, to help those of us who have needed it the most.
