Road surfacing survey
The Government recently announced the allocation of an additional £156.8 million between now and 2033/34 to Westmorland and Furness Council to help them resurface roads, cycleways and footways and maintain bridges and street lighting, as well as preventing potholes and other road defects.
The Council have stated that they have prioritised work “based on the condition of the road and used annual condition surveys of the highway network” as well as considering factors such as road importance, number of reported defects and the number of customer complaints.
Already, the Council have announced that the funding will go towards the following projects within Westmorland & Furness:
2023 to 2024 Network North schemes:
C6003; Long Lane, Dalton - carriageway resurfacing
C6006; Promenade, Walney - carriageway resurfacing
C6009; Market Street, Dalton - carriageway resurfacing
U5719; North Lonsdale Road, Ulverston - carriageway resurfacing
Various locations - street lighting and other lighting works
Various locations - street lighting (replacements), other lighting works and replacement lighting
2024 to 2025 Network North schemes:
Abbey Road, Barrow - carriageway resurfacing
Millstone Avenue, Barrow - carriageway resurfacing
Askam Road, Romney Road Skelgate, Dalton - carriageway and surface dressing
Belvedere Road, Barrow - footways and cycleways resurface
Spray Patching Programme, Barrow - carriageway patching and potholes
Plantation Av and Plantation Grove, Arnside - footways and cycleways resurface
South Lakeland - spray patching programme, carriageway patching and potholes
Eden area - spray patching programme, carriageway patching and potholes

As one third of my office’s casework is related to council issues including transport, roads and potholes, I have created this survey to ask for your thoughts as to which locations need particular attention across Barrow and Furness to ensure that the Council addresses these areas.
